ABOUT USActing Our Age
The Queen
From the beginning, women were given three roles:
maiden, mother, and crone.
We think someone was left out.
The woman who has earned her wisdom, trusts herself, and isn’t shrinking or winding down. We’re here to give the Queen her own story.
Because we know she’s just getting started.
The Founding TeamAbby, Julie
& Constance
Abby Epstein
Emmy and Gracie Allen Award-winning director Abby Epstein has spent decades telling stories that challenge the way we understand women’s lives and health. Her landmark documentary, The Business of Being Born, co-produced with Ricki Lake, helped revolutionize the conversation around childbirth in America. Her follow-up film, The Business of Birth Control, explores hormonal contraception.
As Resident Director of RENT on Broadway and The Vagina Monologues Off Broadway, she staged national and international tours in Canada, Mexico and Europe. Directing over 200 actresses across multiple productions led to her Sundance documentary Until the Violence Stops, chronicling V-Day’s global impact. Her Netflix documentary Weed the People raised awareness about medicinal cannabis benefits.
Through her work, Abby has spent years in conversation with leading researchers, clinicians, and specialists in women’s health. Her own experience navigating midlife led her to become a certified midlife and menopause coach.
Today, she is bringing those worlds together through The Midlife Collective and her collaboration with Constance Zimmer on The Midlife Monologues, a docu-theater project in development, aimed at shattering the silence surrounding midlife.
Julie Flakstad
Julie Flakstad is the award-winning host and producer of The Midlife Truth Project, a research-based initiative-turned-podcast aimed at amplifying the explosive shifts that women experience as they approach and settle into their 40s and 50s. Through her platform, Julie has interviewed hundreds of women about their midlife experiences and as a pro-age advocate, her work creates space for women to come together around complex and vulnerable topics.
A natural gatherer, Julie has spent much of her adult life bringing people together for open and honest conversations that connect us to each other and to ourselves. As a keynote speaker, moderator, and facilitator, she creates spaces where people can engage, connect, and grow.
Julie is regularly featured at conferences and events, on podcasts, and in publications including Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, Forbes, and Katie Couric Media.
Her latest essay was featured in the highly anticipated anthology Midlife Private Parts, released June 2026.
Constance Zimmer
An Emmy-nominated and Critic’s Choice-winning actress known for her portrayal of strong, no-nonsense women, Constance is also a director, producer and advocate. Seen recently in her second Emmy-nominated role on Ryan Murphy’s Love Story, she also starred in Season 4 of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer. She began directing episodic television in 2017 while on UNREAL, continued to direct on other shows, and directed her first feature for Lifetime in 2023.
Inspired by her own midlife experience, she teamed up with Abby Epstein to create The Midlife Monologues, a docu-theater piece currently in development that uses real stories from their community to illuminate the mysterious, hilarious and at times nerve-wracking journey of menopause and midlife.
She’s carrying this messaging from stage to screen and beyond through their documentary Her Second Act (in development), their Dressing Room Confessions Tour, and co-hosting her podcast Talk Fifty To Me. Constance strives to share the knowledge and skills needed to navigate this journey for every woman.
